Dunlop
motorcycle tires provide the only contact between the bike and the ground, so the type of tire and how they are designed is an important part in how the motorcycle functions. Regardless of what type of motorcycle, or tire is being ridden, the tire must perform four basic functions.
The first one is being able to support the motorcycle load. The second one is offering traction and
braking forces against the road. The third is absorbing shock from the road surface, and finally the forth is changing and maintaining the direction of travel.
All tires have a number mixed with letters written on the side of them. This is the size label, or speed
symbol. Knowing how to read tire symbols can be important and easy, if you remember that the load rating corresponds to the total load carrying capacity of the tire at the speed indicated by the speed symbol. The Aspect Ratio equals the height divided by the width times 100. The
tires must also offer traction and braking, and this is done with the bending stiffness and grip of the tire. The bending stiffness is important to allow better grip around
turns and handling in all conditions. The stiffness in performance tires is increased in shoulder and sidewall areas. There are two types of grip, one where the molecules in the tire bond with the surface of the road. The other is called hysteresis, caused with the unevenness
in the road causing deformation, which causes the tire to loose energy.
Shock and maintaining and changing the direction of travel are all very similar in
Dunlop motorcycle tires. It has a lot to do with the construction of the tire. Tires are made similar to those of small trucks, but the crown area is quite rounded. The tire also has large camber angels used for turning.
Make sure when the camber angle is changed, the tire contact area is not
affected and the thread is extended from wall to wall.
Dunlop Motorcycle tires are made for the complex ride a motorcycle provides. They all have different
sizes and tread to allow a smooth ride depending on the type of bike or type of riding you will be enjoying, so make sure to compare tires and pick the right one for the bike.
